Stepping through the door at Big Bear Treehouse is like walking back in time. The vintage charm of this stunning mid-century home is nestled into every detail throughout. While the 1970’s might be prevalent in every room the home does not lack any modern touches to make your stay perfect, except perhaps my favorite which is the absence of a television! What you may lack in Netflix and Chill you can make up for with nature because just out the back door are miles of hiking trails in the San Bernardino National Forest. Finish off the day with a fire and you might find yourself never wanting to leave.

When you want to be surrounded by the beauty of Big Bear but also want to be surrounded by luxury then The Black Abode is surely calling your name. When you walk into this home you are greeted with a simple and elegant color scheme of black, white and teal, it finds its way into every detail throughout. The master bedroom maintains an undeniable brightness even though it is wall to wall black with a stunning white fireplace and just the right amount of gold accent. A gorgeous eat in kitchen with all the equipment you need to prepare a feast is perfect because this home has room! With three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a glamping tent, you’ll have no problem filling this rental with friends and family. The backyard is a haven with ample places to lounge and a firepit as the center piece, you’ll barely even notice that the living room has a TV!

The Cubist Haüs - Running Springs, CA
Modern mountain comfort is waiting for you at 6,030 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California. Hugged by massive pines, this extremely attractive home will make for a superb homebase during your mountain adventures. Making our way inside you’ll be swept into the warm and comfy embrace of the home through its soothing color palate and soft textures throughout. An extremely well equipped kitchen is waiting for you to show off your culinary prowess, whether you decide to challenge yourself to some high elevation baking or whip up the family's favorite dinners. Hand painted murals, each a celebration of mountain life, grace a couple the walls on the first floor and are such a special touch. The second floor living space/game room with the fire roaring in the fireplace will definitely be where you’ll find everyone after a day on the slopes. Time spent under the stars is made easy whether in the hot tub or gathered around the propane fire pit with snacks, bevs and good company. Kaleidoscope Desert - Morongo Valley, CA
I need to set the scene for you to truly understand how special this place is. A vast desert landscape sits before you, you’re sipping on your morning bev of choice as the sun is just cresting over the hills to the east. You’re in good company sitting on the porch, a pair of emus have come to join you and have started preening themselves. The mini horses with the morning zoomies are racing back and forth a few yards ahead. Morning on the farm is as entertaining as it is adorable. Come midmorning you’ll be in the company of a rotating cast of dogs who will steal your heart and make you laugh. No matter where you spend your time here it will undoubtedly be in the company of any of the residents of this animal sanctuary. The options for luxuriating include a cowboy pool that doubles as a hot tub, twin baths under the californian sky, lounge spots hidden throughout the property, and coming soon a natural pool. There are four separate stays that can be rented alone or together each with its own vibe. Kaleidoscope Desert is a nonprofit, magical 5-acre oasis and sanctuary for all creatures. Did I mention they care for over 100 animals that include the emus, dogs and horses from before as well as cows, ducks, goats, pigs and more.

While You’re There: The odds of you wanting to leave are slim BUT you are in a really rad part of the world so maybe give it a try. Grab some vegan nachos at the Yucca Valley Outpost Cafe before hitting up all the vintage marts and shops along the route. If you’re in town on a weekend be sure to pop over to the Sky Village Swap Meet where you’ll find a great variety of desert cheapsakes and tchotchkes. It would be silly not to mention Pappy + Harriet’s in Pioneertown, music, cowboys, good food, and Hollywood history.

KÜLhaus cabin - South Lake Tahoe, CA
A little out of town, peeking out from behind some awe-inspiring pines hides a stunning little a-frame with a big personality. Stepping into Kulhaus is an immersive experience, every inch has been thoughtfully designed with the guest and the environment in mind. With a big focus on sustainability, you will find products all over the a-frame that are locally made including a small in house store where you can shop items hand picked by your host, Keryn. Many of the items were even made by Keryn! We left with an amazing pair of cabin slippers and an insulated bag perfect for farmers markets/grocery shopping. The interior is incredibly stylish while maintaining absolute comfort. Step outside and be greeted by a beautifully landscaped backyard oasis, stare up at the stars and enjoy this little slice of Tahoe paradise.

Tahoe Little Black Cabins “Hygge Barn” - Tahoma, CA
This charming little barn shaped cabin is stunning from the outside, the black exterior pairs beautifully with the rugged mountain scenery. When the sun begins to set and the windows glow it will lure you in like a moth to a flame. Gorgeous cathedral-esq windows allow for the outside to be a part of the inside while remaining private. The soft and modern mountain aesthetic is a lovely contrast to the outside. A plush couch to sink into while someone else takes care of dinner, perhaps gathering around the picnic table outside to dine al fresco.

While You’re There: The lake is a short walk down the street. On the way be sure to stop at Where We Met for gelato and delicious lattes! Pick up a breakfast sando at the West Shore Deli and start your morning basking in the glory of Tahoe. Head to Chambers Landing for the famous punch, just a short drive or bike down the road. The area is full of hiking and water activities and the cabins are located very close to West Shore Sports that has all the rentals you will need.

Tahoe Little Black Cabins “Whiskey Forest” - Tahoma, CA
This handsome cabin is like the older sibling of the Hygge Barn. The sibling that only shops second hand, has the coolest vinyl collection and rides a vintage Harley. Rich caramel tones are abundant around the cabin, really capturing the essence of a “Whiskey Forest”. The mood is set even more when you shut the deep green velvet curtains, start a fire in the wood stove and settle into the leather sofa with a good book and an even better beverage. The primary bedroom shares its scenery with a breathtaking sugar pine out the window making it feel like you are way up in the trees while relaxing in bed. The quality of a cabin can be determined by many things. The obvious being a cozy interior, furniture you can sink into and just overall feeling of welcoming. Alpen Glow of course has all of this but one extraordinary feature that this mountain side cabin has is a view that is so grand it will take your breath away. Walking into Alpen Glow is like the first sip of coffee on a cool morning, with warm neutrals and soft textures throughout the entire home you are immediately comfortable and energized. The open floor plan of the main living space allows for almost every spot to be a fantastic vantage point of La Plata Peak which towers over from across the valley. The other benefit of this open concept is that every corner gets touched by the heat emanating from the Vermont Hearthstone Wood Stove. An expertly equipped kitchen will make for an extra cozy stay as you practice your high elevation culinary skills, you are at 10,000ft after all. There are plenty of cookbooks to assist you on your journey as well as a great selection of pantry items. Once the sun sets and night has settled in, do not miss the spectacle of a million stars, there is little if any light pollution which makes for an amazing view of the Milky Way. Camping meets micro shelter at this super fun spot just an hour and a half outside of Denver. This private site comes with everything you’ll need to kick off a fun few days off grid including a cute camp kitchen setup complete with small oven if you’re feeling up for a little high elevation baking! One major benefit of booking this camp/cabin is that you are just a few steps away from many miles of hiking on pristine Colorado land. If you are a believer of Sasquatch be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for signs of this famous resident. While we are on the topic, The Sasquatch Outpost is only five minutes away and is a must visit for all ages and level of skeptics. Picture this, you’re secluded away on 80 pristine acres of wilderness in Maine's Lakes & Mountains Region, the sun is just coming up over the treetops and you sit down on the deck with a nice hot coffee and a good book. Later on you and your travel buddies plan on taking a hike up to the beaver pond with lunch where you’ll spend a few hours exploring. You walk the private airstrip back to the a-frame and make mental plans to get your pilot's license someday because how cool would it be to fly here! The afternoon is perfect for a paddle so you take the kayaks that are provided at the cabin and head down the road to Egypt Pond. A day as wonderful as this can only be made better with a campfire and s’mores so you do just that. The Maine Lakehouse - Weld, ME
The state of Maine elicits this idea of slowing down, shutting off and reconnecting with nature; when you arrive at the Maine Lake House and your cell phone has lost all its service you will have no choice but to surrender to that idea. This will not be a problem! Located on the banks of Webb Lake, this camp has everything to offer for summer and winter fun. Head out for a morning paddle or perhaps just sit on the dock and let the loons serenade you while you enjoy your coffee. Moose are plentiful in this neck of the woods so keep your eyes out! The interior of the main cabin is a whimsical take on rustic, nooks for bird watching and reading, build a fire in the wood stove on a chilly night or perhaps a little al fresco shower? The bunkhouse next door with its own kitchenette and bathroom is great for extra friends to tag along, feeling brave? Sleep in the boathouse! A tip for your stay, make pancakes on the deck. They have an incredible griddle that we made all the excuses to use! On a clear night be sure to star gaze from the deck, it measures a 2 on the Dark Sky Meter.

We love Maine, we love treehouses and we love love a treehouse in Maine. The Woods Maine is a luxurious, inspiring retreat. When we spoke to Sam, owner of the treehouse, she told us they wanted to create a space for people to find themselves, leave the world behind and enjoy the peace of mind and nature. They were very successful, designed by Pete Nelson and built by Nelson Treehouse & Supply, the house is a beautiful compliment to the trees it was built into. The land surrounding has trails that lead you down to the lake where you can relax on 150 feet of private beach access. Inside the cabin you can bask in the glory of high end amenities. The kitchen is well equipped with all you need for a tasty night in, perhaps dining al fresco in the screened in porch. Sink into the living area and warm up by the fireplace or curl up with a book in the dining area with great windows looking out to the trees. Snuggle up in bed and watch the wild life from your perfect vantage point and relax, you’re in Maine, “the way life should be”.

After being met by the sweetest little bus and given a brief history of the island you are dropped off at the grand steps of the Nantucket Hotel. The staff greet you as if you are an old friend and are nothing short of informative! Any question you have can be answered promptly! The accommodations at the hotel are range from smaller suites for two or larger units for families, with two pools and a hot tub you’ll want to bring the family! The Breeze at the hotel offers an exquisite dining experience but if you’re feeling up for it, the hotel is a short walk to all that Nantucket has to offer.

Woolman Hill - Deerfield, MA
Minutes from downtown Greenfield but miles away from the ordinary sits a quirky little cabin waiting for nature lovers and those looking for a break from the real world. This quaker made cabin is the perfect location for anyone looking to dip their toes in living off grid. It sits perfectly on the fence between camping and cabin stay. Not completely off the grid but enough wear you can get a feel for it. The cozy interior is heated by wood stove, the sleeping loft sits right above for extra comfort on chilly mornings. A small camp kitchen set up is perfect for meals for two but you are only about five minutes from the best burritos in Western Mass so we won’t blame you if you eat out! Enjoy hearing the sounds of owls, coyotes and the soothing sounds of the trees swaying around you while you relax at this unique retreat.

The perfect balance of convenience, comfort & privacy is waiting for you in this amazing White Mountains retreat. This lovingly restored mid-century cabin exudes comfort. The rich log interior welcomes you in with its stone hearth, a roaring fire eager to be started. Stepping back outside and down to the water enjoy a paddle on the provided kayaks/canoe. Don’t miss sunrise from the viewing platform, maybe you’ll luck out and see moose! Take forest bathing literally with a soak in the outdoor shower and if you’re looking for the bathroom you will find it just a hop, skip and jump behind the cabin at the outhouse. The High Peaks of the Adirondacks, known for wild, untamed beauty. Home to New York state's tallest mountains as well as this historic 19th century Ice House. Sitting snug on 980 acres (!!!) this cabin is everything and so much more. A year round dream location offering seemingly endless outdoor exploration and undisturbed hiking, biking, skiing, picnicking, etc. One trip might not even scratch the surface of fun that can be had. Now let us head in shall we? Not before admiring the exterior. I find it very handsome with stone and dark wood shingles. I daydream about how it was built and who it was built by; it served an immense purpose in storing ice for the cold storage at the neighboring Wellscroft estate. You’ll have a hard time imagining that once you’ve stepped inside. The interior is so warm and cozy! A vibe so immaculate you will melt in and if it weren’t for check out you might never be seen again. Thoughtfully designed for comfort and function with an open floor plan and well equipped kitchen. The owners have struck a sublime balance of new and old so you can enjoy the atmosphere of a 19th century space with the modern amenities that we cannot live without.

If you love good history then Warners Camp is just the place. This property dates back to the 1800’s and the owners have done an exquisite job of maintaining the original glory of the camp with just the right amount of modern updates. This home is really quite grand despite its humble appearance! It feels like a mile long and somehow quaint at the same time, with the sounds of the river creating a tranquility in every room. With steps leading down to the river, it might be a good idea to bring your fishing pole. If you prefer to take a dip and cool off on a summer day, take a short walk to the other end of the property and you’ll find yourself on a private beach. Be sure to rinse the river off in the coolest shower ever then snuggle up either by the wood stove or outside around the fire. Winter at Warner’s are now better than ever with the newly installed sauna, perfect for post skiing relaxation! Don’t be surprised if you lose an hour or two listening and watching the river go by!

As charming as it is cozy with beautiful gallery walls filled with vintage art, antique furniture and what every little cabin needs, a wood stove. Every inch thoughtfully curated to maximize your comfort. The main living space is an open kitchen/living space, with wood panelling giving off great rustic vibes. A fully equipped kitchen is the star of the show on a chill night spent in, we whipped up quite the tasty morsels during our stay. The petite bedroom is a cozy nook, perfect for slow mornings letting the sun pour in while you finally finish that book. My favorite spot was the sunroom, waking up predawn and sipping coffee as the sunrises.

Whether it is the height of Summer or the darkest days of Winter, the Hunter Greenhouse is a dream come true. I say that because the floor to ceiling windows that greet you as you walk up to the home are perfect for letting a day creep by while you get lost in a book or the vinyl collection. When Autumn is dropping its confetti on the deck, I would highly recommend making some hot cider and a fire in the chiminea. Is it raining out? No better excuse to bake up a storm in the kitchen! Built 30 years ago however on first glance you might think you are looking at a cabin no younger than 100 years old. This is all thanks to the repurposed 1800’s barnwood and paneling that you see throughout the interior and exterior of the home. These antique touches make for an extra cozy experience during your stay. Pardon me if I sound obsessed with this incredible Northeast Kingdom home because I am obsessed. It combines a few of my most favorite things, history, antiques, hand hewn beams and Vermont. What more could a gal want? Originally built in 1842 this home was first known as a pitstop along the Bolton Pass, a welcome sight for weary travelers on their way to Montreal via Boston or vice versa. After undergoing a long restoration and re-envisioning process which spanned 6+ years the home is ready to welcome new and less weary travelers. Sitting on 35 gorgeous acres and overlooking the stunning rolling mountains of northern Vermont you will fall deeply into rest and relaxation during your stay here. Be sure to roam throughout the home and take in every lovingly cared for inch. If you’ve ever imagined a small cabin in the woods chances are it looked a bit like this. Situated on 50 secluded acres of riverfront property you are sure to disconnect and relax. Built in the late 1800’s this cabin has some old world charm, the original door knocker from the original owner of the home included. Enjoy the sounds of nature on the back deck or take a hike around the property and find your way down by the river. A great spot to have a fire, go for dip or cast a line or two and try your luck at catching dinner! The stargazing here is unreal.
